The Annual Meeting of Cheveley Parish Council was held on Tuesday 17th May.
At the meeting Roderick (Rick) Humphries was elected as Chairman for the coming year. The appointment of the Vice Chairman was deferred until the current incumbents’ Declaration of Acceptance of Office could be confirmed. Whilst the Council was quorate and legally able to transact Parish business it was noted that subsequent Council meetings may be subject to cancellation in the event of any individual Councillor being absent due to illness or business.
Sue Carty was named as the recipient of the McCalmont Cup for 2011 for her tireless work as Manager of Somerset Court Sheltered Housing Scheme. Sue formerly worked as a nurse and then with Social Services as a carer to many residents within Cheveley and is due to retire in May.
There are now four vacancies in the North and two in the South Wards of the Parish following the May 2011 local elections and these will be advertised on the notice boards. Anyone interested should contact the Clerk for details of how to apply.
It was noted that the transition to the new session of Council post local elections had not been smooth and currently it was not possible for cheques to be signed and issued. The confusion giving rise to this situation is being resolved with the bank.
The next meeting of the Parish Council will be held on Tuesday 14th June in the Community Room at Cheveley School at 7.30 pm.
The Annual Parish Meeting was held immediately after the annual general meeting at 7.30 pm.
