Localism and Community Led Planning

Cambridgeshire ACRE has added a further briefing paper to its series on what Localism will mean to Cambridgeshire’s local communities. This new paper examines the role of Community-Led Plans (CLPs) in relation to the new Localism proposals contained in the Localism Bill and looks at why Community Led Planning will be more important than ever to Cambridgeshire’s rural communities going forward.

FREE TRAINING for Community Hall Management Committees

Thanks to funding from Awards for All, Cambridgeshire ACRE is able to offer some free training sessions for those who run community buildings across the county. This training is vital for anyone involved in the day to day running of a village hall or other community building. Training is taking place on various dates and in various locations across the county in September and October and is open to all. The aim of Cambridgeshire Future Transport is to take a whole-county approach to changing the way transport is provided; and indeed looking beyond the County boundaries in recognition that people often wish to travel to or from other locations.

Map highlights slow rural broadband

An interactive map highlights the slower broadband speeds suffered by countryside communities. The map was produced by Ofcom using data provided by communications providers about broadband infrastructure. It is the UK's first interactive map of fixed broadband.

Public Attitudes to Housing in England

The Department for Communities and Local Government has published a report based on the results from the British Social Attitudes survey. Households in England were asked a number of questions across a wide range of housing issues and subjects including the housing market, preferences for buying or renting, housing in the local area and energy and the environment.

HCA announces successful bidders for £1.8bn affordable homes funding

Almost 150 housing associations, local authorities, house builders and other providers are set to deliver 80,000 new affordable homes as the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) confirmed successful organisations and area-based allocations for its Affordable Homes Programme.

Payments Council announces that cheques will continue

The Payments Council has announced that cheques will continue for as long as customers need them and the target for possible closure of the cheque clearing in 2018 has been cancelled. The Payments Council Board will continue to focus on security, efficiency and encouraging innovation in all types of payments to ensure customers have options best suited to the 21st century.

Commission for Rural Communities – Focus for 2011 - 12

Stuart Burgess, the Chairman of the Commission for Rural Communities, has published a letter setting out the Commission’s Focus for 2011 – 12. The two main areas of focus will be young people in rural areas – opportunities for training and employment and the implications of isolation for rural communities. The letter goes onto set out wider priorities and detailed plans.

Taking up the Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge

We would like Town and Parish Councils and other landowners to submit the outdoor recreational spaces they own to be protected as part of the Challenge. A wide range of sites are acceptable for inclusion such as country parks, play areas, woodlands, playing fields and bicycle trails. Cambridgeshire ACRE can provide more details and can give 1:1 support to councils and other landowners looking to nominate a sport, play or recreational site that they own.
